颜惠庆与《英华大辞典》的编纂研究

【摘要】：1905年,随着西学东渐的进程和经济社会的发展,汉语出现了大量的新词。当时,中国学生的英语学习取得了一定的进展,并在不断深化。商务印书馆由此看到了对既有术语和新兴术语进行释义、归纳、收录的需要,也越来越认识到准备一本收词量更大、更加完备的词典的必要性。于是,时任编译所长张元济力邀颜惠庆以及分别来自香港皇仁书院和上海圣约翰书院的其他16位编者,历时三年,编辑、出版《英华大辞典》。《英华大辞典》初版分为上下两卷,共收录英文单词和短语12万条,其中包含译词、发音、定义、释例、图例以及详尽的附录。它的编纂参考了当时优秀的英英、英中、英和辞典,把握了时代变化的特征,最终成为超越前代词典并且对后代英华词典的编纂产生深远影响的一部综合性大型辞典。因此,以《英华大辞典》为研究对象,从编纂者、编纂背景、编纂特点等几个方面对其进行探究,对于考察《英华大辞典》的社会流通和学术影响具有深远意义。本文综合采用历史研究的方法、比较的方法、数量统计的方法以及文献学的方法,在搜集不同版本英英、英和、英华词典文献的基础上,对抽样词条进行对比分析。本文的创新性有两点。其一,宏观视角与微观视角的结合。首先,从宏观的视角观察《英华大辞典》的编纂条件、编纂过程、编纂内容以及社会流通;其次,从微观的视角对比分析词条、义项、释义、译词,用实例来说明《英华大辞典》在义项收录、词性划分、专业术语标识、插图、译词选择及词典借鉴等几个方面的特点。其二,大量的词典文献观察比较。截至论文撰写之始,笔者一共收集了四十多本英英、英和、英华词典,根据论文的需要对其中的二十多本进行了细致的观察,观察结果详见论文。论文主体由五个部分构成。序言部分主要介绍论文的选题缘由、学术梳理和研究现状三个方面;第一章主要从编纂条件、过程、团队三个方面来介绍以《英华大辞典》的编纂概况;第二章主要从《英华大辞典》的继承与创新以及具体编纂特点两个方面来描述其微观结构特点;第三章主要探讨《英华大辞典》的社会流通和学术影响;结语部分总结前文分析结果,在研究结果的基础上指出《英华大辞典》研究的学术意义。
[Abstract]:In 1905, with the development of western learning and economic and social development, a large number of new words appeared in Chinese. It is of far-reaching significance to investigate the social circulation and academic influence of Yinghua Dictionary in several aspects, such as the characteristics of compilation. This paper synthetically adopts the method of historical research and the method of comparison. The methods of quantitative statistics and philology, on the basis of collecting different versions of English, English and English and English Chinese dictionaries, make a comparative analysis of the sample entries. There are two innovative points in this paper. The combination of macro and micro perspectives. First of all, from the macro perspective to observe the compilation conditions, compilation process, compilation content and social circulation; Secondly, from the microscopic perspective of comparative analysis of terms, meaning, interpretation, translation of words, using examples to illustrate the "Yinghua Dictionary" in the meaning of the collection, part of speech division, professional terminology identification, illustrations. Second, a large number of dictionaries have been observed and compared. At the beginning of writing, the author has collected more than 40 English, English, English and English Chinese dictionaries. According to the needs of the paper, more than 20 of them have been carefully observed, the results are detailed in the paper. The main body of the paper is composed of five parts. The conclusion part summarizes the results of the above analysis and points out the academic significance of the study on Yinghua Dictionary.
