《亚洲文会会报》与中国古代叙事文学的译介

【摘要】：皇家亚洲文会北中国支会是1857年在上海创办的一个文化机构。该机构在华期间创办了亚洲文会图书馆、博物馆以及文会会报。虽然关于中西文化交流领域的研究已经非常多了,但就近代中西文化交流而言,学界往往较多关注相关的思想、学说和人物的论述,对于充当文化交流媒介的机构关注较少,关于皇家亚洲文会北中国支会的相关研究除王毅之外大多只言片语。作为一个旨在“调查研究中国各项事情”的文化机构,其出版的会报内容自然也是包罗万象,涉及政治、历史、地理、文学等诸多方面。文会会报刊载了大量汉学家、外交官的译介作品和评论文章。但对于会报具体文章的价值几乎无人论及。本文拟重点结合其中和中国古代叙事文学相关的篇目,以求展现它们的译介策略和文学价值。本文的研究对象是1858年至1948年出版的《亚洲文会会报》中和中国古代叙事文学相关的篇目,包括小说、民间传说与神话故事、戏剧和叙事诗。全文分为三章,第一章论述对象为《亚洲文会会报》中的小说。小说一直是来华汉学家和外交官关注的重心,在会报创办早期刊登的翻译类文章大多是节译或概述,在此过程中译者的主体性得到了充分的发挥,同时几乎长篇翻译或概述作者都会加上自己的评价,其中有他们对于中国小说的看法,还有他们对于中国哲学体系的看法等等;第二章论述对象为《亚洲文会会报》中的民间传说与神话故事,来华汉学家并没有仅仅关注中国古代经典著作,而是深入民间去搜集那些可能被中国知识分子所忽略的材料并从中发现中国文学的独特价值。第三章论述对象为《亚洲文会会报》中的戏剧与叙事诗。中国汉族的叙事诗资源较少,而古代中国对于戏剧的评价也往往不高。会报中关于叙事诗和戏剧的文章主要还是以翻译为主,对于戏剧的基本情况概述较多,评论较少。
[Abstract]:The North China Branch of the Royal Asian Culture Society was founded in Shanghai in 1857. During its stay in China, the organization set up a library, a museum and a newspaper of the Association of Asian Literary Societies. Although there has been a lot of research on the field of cultural exchange between China and the West, as far as modern Chinese and Western cultural exchanges are concerned, scholars tend to pay more attention to relevant ideas, theories and figures, and pay less attention to the institutions that act as the media for cultural exchanges. Most of the studies on the North China Branch of the Royal Asian Literary Society, except Wang Yi, are mere words. As a cultural organization which aims to "investigate and study all things in China", the contents of its published newspapers are naturally all-encompassing, covering politics, history, geography, literature and so on. A large number of translations and commentaries by Sinologists and diplomats were published in the newspaper. But the value of specific articles in the newspaper is hardly discussed. This paper focuses on the contents related to ancient Chinese narrative literature in order to show their translation strategies and literary value. The research object of this paper is the articles related to ancient Chinese narrative literature published from 1858 to 1948, including novels, folklore and mythological stories, plays and narrative poems. The thesis is divided into three chapters. The first chapter deals with the novels in the Journal of the Asian Literary Society. Novels have always been the focus of attention of Sinologists and diplomats in China. Most of the translation articles published in the early days of the newspaper were translated or summarized. In this process, the translator's subjectivity has been given full play. At the same time, almost long translation or summary writers will add their own comments, including their views on Chinese novels, as well as their views on the Chinese philosophical system and so on; The second chapter deals with the folklore and mythological stories in the Journal of the Asian Literary Society. Sinologists in China do not only pay attention to the classical works of ancient China. Instead, they go deep into the people to collect materials that may be ignored by Chinese intellectuals and discover the unique value of Chinese literature. The third chapter deals with the drama and narrative poetry in the Journal of the Asian Literary Society. The Chinese Han nationality has less resources for narrative poetry, while ancient China's evaluation of drama is often low. The articles about narrative poetry and drama in the newspaper are mainly based on translation, and there are more summarization and less comments on the basic situation of drama.
