从《丰乳肥臀》英法译本的对比探究译者主体性

【摘要】:随着中国第一个诺贝尔文学奖的诞生,中国当代作家莫言及其一系列作品受到举世瞩目。莫言作品在海外的传播与接受,得益于其小说创作中的世界因素,同时一些著名的翻译家们也起了非常关键的桥梁作用。《丰乳肥臀》作为莫言最具代表性的作品之一,之所以能够赢得海外市场,其英译者葛浩文做出了巨大的贡献。然而,国内多数学者只关注到了其英译本,殊不知,更多的国外读者其实是因为其法译本才认识了莫言,从而接触到莫言的作品,且莫言曾被冠名“最受法国读者欢迎的中国作家”,所有的这些离不开其法译者的功劳。鉴于此,本论文试图将两个译本放到一起进行对比研究,通过对两个译者不同的选材标准、翻译思想及翻译策略的分析,从而更清晰地认识译者主体性及其体现。本文分别以Howard Goldblatt的英译本与Noel Dutrait的法译本为研究对象,采用文本对比法,比较分析原文与两个译文,旨在探究译者在翻译中主体性的不同表现。通过对比发现Howard Goldblatt与Noel Dutrait在翻译过程中秉持的是截然不同的翻译标准与思想,所采用的翻译方式也大相径庭。葛浩文在选取翻译文本时,除了考虑自己的风格与喜好外,更看重的是作品的受众与市场接受程度,而杜特莱的选材主要是根据自身喜好以及朋友和出版社的推荐;在翻译思想上,葛浩文强调翻译是基于忠实基础上的重写与背叛,翻译应该更多地为读者服务,鉴于此译者应更多地发挥主观能动性参与到作品中,与之相反,杜特莱认为翻译应该尽量忠实于原文,保留原作的风格,当遇到文化冲突时,在不违背原作意义的基础上若有必要,可以适当加以注释以使读者更好地理解原文。因此,基于不同的翻译思想,葛浩文与杜特莱分别采用了不同的处理方式。本文探究的是译者主体性在英法两个译本中的体现及其对翻译作品的影响,这对于翻译研究而言,有一定的理论和现实意义。理论上说,译者在翻译中发挥的主观能动性也应纳入建立翻译标准的考虑范围。从实践来看,《丰乳肥臀》的英法译者在处理文化冲突所带来的翻译困难时所采用的翻译手段能给现当代中国小说的译者提供一定的启示。译者在选择译作时首先应精通两国语言及文化,在翻译过程中采用恰当的翻译策略充分发挥其译者主体性,有效促进中国文化与译入语文化的有效交流与沟通,从而使中国优秀作品更好地走向世界。
[Abstract]:With the birth of the first Nobel Prize in Literature, Mo Yan, a contemporary Chinese writer, and his series of works attracted worldwide attention. The spread and acceptance of Mo Yan's works abroad, thanks to the world factors in his novel creation, and at the same time, some famous translators have also played a very important role as a bridge. As one of Mo Yan's most representative works, "rich breast and fat buttocks" is one of Mo Yan's most representative works. The translator, William Gehor, has made a great contribution to winning the overseas market. However, most domestic scholars only pay attention to the English version of Mo Yan, but they do not know that more foreign readers have come to know Mo Yan because of his French translation, and thus come into contact with Mo Yan's works. Mo Yan has been named "the most popular Chinese writer among French readers", all of which can not be separated from his legal translators. In view of this, this thesis attempts to make a comparative study of the two versions together, through the analysis of the two translators' different selection criteria, translation ideas and translation strategies, so as to better understand the translator's subjectivity and its embodiment. Taking the English version of Howard Goldblatt and the French version of Noel Dutrait as the research objects, this paper makes a comparative analysis of the original text and the two versions by means of text comparison, with a view to exploring the different manifestations of the translator's subjectivity in translation. Through comparison, it is found that Howard Goldblatt and Noel Dutrait adhere to different translation standards and ideas in the process of translation, and adopt different translation methods. In selecting the translated text, besides considering his own style and preference, the author pays more attention to the audience and the market acceptance of his works, while Duterley's selection is mainly based on his own preference and the recommendation of his friends and publishing houses. In his translation thoughts, he emphasizes that translation is rewriting and betraying on the basis of faithfulness, and that translation should serve the readers more. In view of the fact that the translator should play a more active role in his works, the opposite is true. Duterley believes that translation should be faithful to the original text and retain the original style. In the event of a cultural conflict, if necessary, the original text should be properly annotated so as to enable the reader to better understand the original text. Therefore, based on different translation ideas, the author and Duterley adopt different approaches. This paper explores the embodiment of the translator's subjectivity in the two versions of English and French and its influence on the translation works, which is of theoretical and practical significance to the study of translation. Theoretically, the translator's subjective initiative in translation should also be taken into account in the establishment of translation criteria. From the practical point of view, the translation methods adopted by the English and French translators in dealing with the translation difficulties caused by cultural conflicts can provide some enlightenment to the translators of modern and contemporary Chinese novels. The translator should be proficient in the two languages and cultures in the first place in the selection of the translated works. In the process of translation, appropriate translation strategies should be adopted to give full play to the translator's subjectivity so as to effectively promote the effective exchange and communication between Chinese culture and the target culture. In order to make the excellent works of China go to the world better.
