【摘要】：在当今世界经济全球化进程下,国家间的经济文化交流日益密切,这也极大地影响了各国间的学术交流,尤其是中国学生越来越偏向出国求学。他们开始走向世界,学习国外优秀文化和先进技术。众所周知,优异的学术成绩是申请到各国名校最基本的前提条件,但是由于国外学校招生要求多会涉及到文书,特别是全球各顶尖大学,如美国的“常春藤盟校”和英国的“金砖五校”,他们非常重视申请人除学习成绩之外的表现,包括领导能力,交际能力,协调能力,组织能力和其他特殊才能等等,而展示这些能力和个性特点的渠道就是申请文书,由此可见其重要性也不可小觑。然而对于很多中国学生来说,他们缺少对各大高校申请要求的了解,自身的英语写作能力又十分薄弱,为了能够顺利拿到名校录取甚至获得一笔数目可观的奖学金,行文流畅,情感饱满的申请文书翻译必不可少。本文试图从文本类型理论视角探讨留学申请文书的英译,总结出有效地翻译技巧。通过对赖斯的文本类型理论的研究和留学申请文书的分析,作者发现主题鲜明,内容充实的申请文书对申请成功大有裨益,而中国申请者有几个问题,如喜欢引用名人名言;根据网络或其他模板写作,千篇一律,缺少独特性;担心字数不够,事无巨细通通写入文书;对内容不加选择,主题往往涉及政治,宗教等敏感话题。因此,在完成此项目时,译者都需要先对原文本进行加工处理,使之符合申请文书的写作原则,然后再进行翻译。本文通过分析留学申请文书翻译中遇到的实例,运用措辞,加注,增译和省译等翻译技巧给出合适的翻译。在总结申请文书翻译经验的基础上,笔者得出了如下结论:由于在翻译实践中常常会遇到各种专业和研究方向,所以在译前一定要多了解不同专业的术语和表达习惯等;另一方面,译者也应该多了解各高校对于申请文书的写作要求,只有这样才能写出出彩的申请文书。本文旨在借此探索,为今后的申请文书英译提供借鉴和参考。希望中国学生能够用地道且优美的英语表现自我,从而实现留学梦。
[Abstract]:With the globalization of the world economy, the economic and cultural exchanges between countries are becoming more and more close, which has greatly affected the academic exchanges among countries, especially Chinese students are more and more inclined to go abroad to study. They began to go to the world, learning foreign excellent culture and advanced technology. As we all know, excellent academic achievement is the most basic prerequisite for applying to famous universities in various countries. However, since the admission requirements of foreign schools are often related to documents, especially the top universities in the world, For example, the "Ivy League" in the United States and the "BRICS" in the United Kingdom attach great importance to the applicant's performance in addition to academic performance, including leadership, communication, coordination, organizational and other special skills. And the channel that shows these ability and personality characteristic is application document, show its importance also cannot be underestimated. However, for many Chinese students, they lack the knowledge of the application requirements of major universities, and their English writing ability is very weak. In order to be able to get successful admission to famous schools and even a considerable number of scholarships, they can write smoothly. Emotional application documents translation is essential. This paper attempts to explore the English translation of the application documents from the perspective of text type theory and summarize the effective translation techniques. Based on the study of Rice's text type theory and the analysis of the application documents for studying abroad, the author finds that the application documents with clear themes and substantial contents are of great benefit to the success of the application, while the Chinese applicants have several problems, such as quoting famous quotes; Writing based on the Internet or other templates, stereotyped, lacking uniqueness; worried that there are not enough words, everything is written in the paper; no choice of content, the subject often involves political, religious and other sensitive topics. Therefore, when completing this project, the translator should first process the original text to make it conform to the writing principle of the application document, and then translate the original text. Based on the analysis of the examples encountered in the translation of the application documents for study abroad, this paper gives a suitable translation by using such translation techniques as wording, annotation, incremental translation and saving translation. On the basis of summing up the experience of translation of application documents, the author draws the following conclusions: because of the various specialties and research directions often encountered in translation practice, it is necessary to know more about the terminology and expression habits of different specialties before translation; On the other hand, translators should also know more about the writing requirements of application documents in colleges and universities. The purpose of this paper is to provide reference for future English translation of application documents. Hope that Chinese students can express themselves in authentic and beautiful English so as to realize their dream of studying abroad.
