信息结构对中国英语学习者句法加工的影响

【摘要】:已有研究证明信息结构影响英语母语者的句法加工,而信息结构是否影响中国英语学习者的句法加工目前尚不清楚。因此,本研究的目的是回答以下问题:信息结构是否影响、如何影响不同水平的中国英语学习者英语句法加工过程?为了回答该研究问题,本研究设计了一个2(信息结构:新/旧)x2(句法结构:DO/PO)x2(二语水平:高/低)的实验。本研究试验方法采用的是自控步速阅读。实验材料分为语境句(体现信息结构的句子)和目标句(同时体现句法结构和信息结构的双宾句),语境句先于目标句呈现。实验对象分为高低水平两组:高水平受试(来自广州某高校英语专业研究生三年级学生),低水平受试(来自同一高校英语专业本科一年级学生)。实验发现,1)在加工早期(双宾句中的第一个宾语),高低水平者既不能利用句法知识也不能利用属于认知层面的信息结构;2)在加工中期(双宾句中的第二个宾语),低水平者只能利用句法知识进行加工,而高水平者能激活信息结构对句法加工产生影响;3)在加工末期(第二个宾语之后的部分),此时低水平者显示出延迟的信息结构作用,而高水平者继续利用信息结构加工句子。因此我们得出以下结论:信息结构作为认知因素的一种,影响中国英语学习者的句法加工,但对高水平与低水平二语学习者的句法加工产生不同的影响。高水平学习者二语句法加工机制与英语为母语者的句法加工机制非常相似,能在句法加工的同时利用认知资源。而低水平组的加工规律则表明低水平学习者由于认知资源的有限更多局限于语言内部加工,无法在句法加工时同时利用信息结构等认知资源。实验结果能由“线性位置假设”解释,并且支持了“统一竞争模型”,部分否定及部分支持“接口假设”。
[Abstract]:It has been proved that information structure affects the syntactic processing of native English speakers, while it is not clear whether information structure affects the syntactic processing of Chinese English learners. Therefore, the purpose of this study is to answer the following questions: whether and how the information structure affects the syntactic process of Chinese EFL learners at different levels? In order to answer this question, this study designed an experiment of 2 (Information structure: new / Old) (syntactic structure: do / POX 2 (L2: high / low). The method of this study is to read at a self-controlled pace. The experimental materials can be divided into contextual sentences (sentences that embody information structure) and target sentences (which embody syntactic structure and information structure at the same time). The subjects were divided into high and low level groups: high level students (from the third year of English major in a certain university in Guangzhou) and low level students (from the same college English major freshman students). It is found that in the early stage of processing (the first object in the double object sentence, the high or low level can neither use the syntactic knowledge nor the information structure belonging to the cognitive level) in the middle of processing (the second object in the double object sentence), Low level people can only use syntactic knowledge for processing, The high level can activate the information structure to affect the syntactic processing. At the end of processing (the part after the second object), the low level person shows the delayed information structure function, while the high level person continues to use the information structure to process the sentence. Therefore, we draw the following conclusions: as a cognitive factor, information structure affects the syntactic processing of Chinese EFL learners, but it has different effects on the syntactic processing of high and low level L2 learners. The two sentence processing mechanism of high level learners is very similar to that of native English speakers, and it can use cognitive resources while processing syntax. The processing rules of low level group show that low level learners can not use cognitive resources such as information structure in syntactic processing because their cognitive resources are more limited in language processing. The experimental results can be explained by "linear position hypothesis", and support "unified competition model", partly negate and partly support "interface hypothesis".
