操纵理论视角下《河岸》英译本研究

【摘要】：本文以安德烈·勒菲弗尔的操纵理论为理论框架,对葛浩文英译本The Boat to Redemption进行分析,旨在论证操纵因素对翻译过程的制约以及翻译策略选择的影响,进而证实操纵理论对分析此类中国特定历史时期的特殊文学题材小说译本的适用性,对于将操纵理论应用于此类具有选材特殊性类译本的研究具有参考意义。自上世纪20世纪70年代开始,翻译研究出现“文化转向”,其研究从单纯地重视语言转换为更重视文化转换,操纵学派应运而生。作为翻译研究文化学派的代表人物,勒弗维尔曾提出“操纵理论”,认为翻译就是操纵与改写,并指出影响与制约翻译的三大因素为意识形态、诗学观、赞助人,为翻译研究提供了全新的视角。2009年,著名当代作家苏童新晋之作《河岸》出版,该作品描述与刻画文化大革命时期人物的悲惨命运与救赎之旅。2010年葛浩文英译本The Boat to Redemp ion随之发行,苏童也借此作获第三届英仕曼亚洲文学奖(Man Asian Literary Prize)。苏童获此殊荣,与此译者功劳密不可分,葛浩文以其丰富的翻译经验与独特的翻译思想,在忠于原作的基础上不失对原作进行操纵与改写,为前者的成功夺魁奠定了基础。文章开篇介绍研究背景、研究意义、提出假设以及论文结构,继而对操纵理论、所采用译本The Boat to Redemption、葛浩文及其作品等相关研究进行回顾,在理论框架支撑下,主要运用定性分析的方法辅以简单数据统计对英译本进行详尽分析,并取得相应研究成果。经研究佐证,操纵理论对此类兼备政治文学特殊性的小说作品具有可解释性特别是对此类文学作品的翻译研究兼备创新意义。研究结论强调一方面文本翻译过程确受到意识形态、诗学等因素操纵,译者的操纵动机与翻译策略随之变化;另一方面,由于鲜有学者运用操纵理论来分析此类饱含政治色彩文学作品,本论文对操纵理论适用性研究具有一定探索意义。鉴于篇幅有限,本篇论文着重从意识形态、诗学观角度进行论述,期待未来相关研究能充实对赞助人因素的分析论证,使研究达到更全面、更具有论证说服力。
[Abstract]:Taking Andrea Lefevere's manipulation theory as the theoretical framework, this paper makes an analysis of the English translation of The Boat to Redemption in order to demonstrate the influence of manipulation factors on the translation process and the choice of translation strategies. It also proves the applicability of manipulation theory to the analysis of this kind of special literary novels in the specific historical period of China. It is of reference significance to apply manipulation theory to the study of this kind of translation with special material selection. Since the 1970s of the last century, there has been a "cultural turn" in the study of translation, whose research has changed from simply attaching importance to language transformation to paying more attention to cultural transformation, and the school of manipulation has emerged as the times require. As a representative figure of the cultural school of translation studies, Lefevere put forward the "manipulation theory", which holds that translation is manipulation and rewriting, and points out that the three factors that influence and restrict translation are ideology, poetics and patron. In 2009, the famous contemporary writer Su Tong Xinjin's book Riverside was published. The novel describes and portrays the tragic fate and redemption journey of the characters during the Cultural Revolution. In 2010, the English translation of The Boat to Redemp ion was released, for which Su Tong was awarded the third Inshman Prize for Asian Literature, (Man Asian Literary Prize). With his rich translation experience and unique translation thoughts, Su Tong manipulates and rewrites the original work on the basis of his loyalty to the original, thus laying a foundation for the former's success in winning the title. At the beginning of the paper, the background, significance, hypothesis and structure of the thesis are introduced, and then the relevant research on manipulation theory, the translated version of The Boat to Redemption, and his works is reviewed, which is supported by the theoretical framework. The qualitative analysis method is used to analyze the English translation in detail with simple data statistics, and the corresponding research results are obtained. It is proved by the research that manipulation theory is of great significance to the translation study of this kind of literary works, especially to the translation of such literary works, which has the particularity of political literature. On the one hand, the translation process is manipulated by ideology, poetics and other factors, and the translator's manipulation motivation and translation strategy change with it, on the other hand, the study concludes that the translation process is influenced by ideology and poetics. As few scholars use manipulation theory to analyze this kind of literary works full of political color, this thesis is of great significance to the study of the applicability of manipulation theory. In view of the limited space, this paper focuses on ideology and poetics, hoping that the relevant studies in the future can enrich the analysis and demonstration of the patron factor, so that the research can be more comprehensive and persuasive.
